Moments later, she saw a plane going down near her home in Miramar. She called 911.

“Did you see any smoke or flames?” the 911 operator asked.

“No, no. But I saw it with my husband. It was going down, and we were just talking about that accident when one fell over a lady,” the caller answered. “It killed her little son, and we were just talking about that, and then we saw it going down, going down, going down and then we heard a boom.”

At approximately 11:45 a.m. Monday, a single-engine, two-seat Aventura II aircraft plunged into a home in the 2200 block of Jamaica Drive. A mother and her 2-year-old son were inside the home.

The aircraft involved in Monday's fatal accident in Miramar is lifted from the home into which it crashed, Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022. The pilot and passenger of the plane were killed in the accident.
The aircraft involved in Monday’s fatal accident in Miramar is lifted from the home into which it crashed, Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022. The pilot and passenger of the plane were killed in the accident.

“An airplane just fell on top of my house!” a woman told the 911 operator. “Please send someone really quick!”

She said the plane fell in the back of her house near her yard and pool. She described neighbors attempting to get into her backyard to help.

“I was there with my baby, and I got out,” she said. “Please send someone really quick.”

The plane’s pilot and passenger died, but no one on the ground was injured. The plane had taken off from North Perry Airport in Pembroke Pines and crashed into the house about seven blocks away.

As cranes lifted the small aircraft from the roof of a Miramar home Tuesday afternoon, details surrounding the crash and its two victims began to come to light. But questions remain regarding the cause of the crash and the reason the two men were flying the plane over Miramar that morning.

The two people on the plane were identified Tuesday as Jordan Hall, 31, of West Park, and Antony Yen, 34, of Orlando. Neither is the registered owner of the aircraft, according to Federal Aviation Administration records; the man who owns the plane lives in Sutherland, Va. He declined to comment Tuesday evening.

Susan Hall Dotson, Hall’s mother, said she has not learned where her son was going to or from Monday with Yen and did not know how the men knew each other.

She said her son, who was an entrepreneur and sold planes, had been flying for a couple of years. He grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio, near Cleveland.

“He was charismatic. He was hardworking. He was ingenious. He was multi-faceted,” Hall Dotson said. “He liked a lot of different things. He liked to fish, he liked to swim, he liked boating, he liked snowboarding. He liked cars. He liked starting businesses and selling things.”

Hall’s social media shows he ran a website where he sold kits with Aventura II aircraft parts for people to buy and assemble themselves. The website also shows an Aventura II plane and a Buccaneer II plane for sale.

Yen was a certified flight instructor and owner of Straight and Level Seaplanes, which offers seaplane tours across Florida, according to his social media pages.

“He was vibrant and exciting,” said his mother, Cynthia Yen. “Have you seen his videos? I don’t know what to say. He was a very good teacher. And he loved what he was doing. He loved flying airplanes.”

Only three days ago, Yen posted a video on Facebook from the cockpit of a small plane with the caption, “Another day another student, it always feels amazing to share the freedom of flying on the water.”

Yen had a sister, two brothers and 12 nieces and nephews that “are all crying,” his mother said. “He was wonderful.”

First responders worked for hours to pull the two men’s bodies out of the small plane that landed nose-down and became ensnared in live electrical wires, Miramar Police said. The crash resulted in power outages in 35 homes due to leaking fuel.

Manyerenis Moreno, 30, who lives in the home where the plane crashed with her husband and two-year old son, said she had just gone into the house with her son after playing in the yard.

“I’m still in shock,” said Moreno on Tuesday. They had returned to the house Tuesday morning after grabbing a few personal belongings and spending the night elsewhere. “It was something big. But we’re alive and that’s what’s important.”

Cranes arrived before noon Tuesday and removed the plane from the roof of the house. The extent of the damage and whether the house will be livable remain unknown.

Other unknowns include which man was flying, where the two men were coming from, and where they were going when they crashed. The National Transportation Safety Board is currently leading the investigation into the crash, but it has yet to release any information. NTSB investigations typically can take up to 24 months.

The aircraft took off from North Perry Airport about 11:30 a.m. Monday, 11 minutes before the crash, said Tania Rues, a spokesperson for Miramar Police.

According to an incident notice published by the FAA, the plane was in the “approach” phase of landing when it crashed, the phase when the plane approaches the runway.

Yen’s mother speculated that it looked like they were trying to turn the plane around because the engine died.

But the aircraft’s home base was not North Perry Airport. A Miramar city official said authorities believe the plane was relocated to North Perry Airport to avoid Hurricane Ian.

Preliminary information shows the plane “made a transient stop” at the airport, Arlene Satchell, a spokesperson for North Perry Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, said in a text message Monday night.

Some witnesses described what they thought were signs of engine trouble in the seconds before the crash.

A 911 caller said in Spanish that he was working near Island Road when he heard “the engine stopped in the air. When they tried to restart it, it was very low,” he told the operator.

In a video posted to his company’s Facebook page in June, Yen and one of his students are flying a seaplane when they lose engine power 600 feet above the ground. He takes over flight controls from his student and makes an emergency landing in a cornfield.

“Not the smoothest landing but there’s no damage to people or property so it’s good enough for me,” Yen says in a voiceover. “Fly safe out there guys. I hope to never make content like this ever again.”

A longtime volunteer at 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades Florida died Thursday morning after a dog she was working with suddenly attacked.

The female volunteer was working with the dog when it became aggressive, Claudinne Caro, a spokesperson for the Broward Sheriff’s Office, said. A second woman witnessed the attack and tried to help. She had minor injuries.

The dog was a large mixed-breed rescue that recently came to the center at 345 E. Commercial Blvd. from the Everglades, Caro said.

A spokesperson for the Broward County Animal Care and Adoption Center, which took the dog from the business after the attack, did not return a call and email Thursday afternoon.

“Our Hearts are Broken for our Dear Friend Pam. our deepest condolences to her family & friends. We are All grieving & ask for you to please give us time to process this great miss fortune [sic] & loss of our Dear friend. We thank you for your love & patience,” the post said.

Pam Robb, 71, had volunteered with the organization for at least six years since she retired from teaching at Cooper City High School, said Angie Anobile, who married Robb in 2016 and met her nearly 20 years before.

Robb was outside with the dog, Gladys, when the attack happened, Anobile said. Gladys first latched onto Robb’s arm before taking Robb to the ground.

Anobile said Robb was proud of the progress she saw Gladys making in the weeks since the group rescued her. After a day of volunteering, Robb would tell Anobile and her friends each time she felt the dog warming up to her.

“She was one of the few that the dog resonated with. She was just starting to build trust with the dog,” Anobile said.

“Her greatest joy was having these dogs respond to human contact, and I don’t blame anybody. It was a tragic accident, but I do blame people who abuse animals, who don’t love them like they should be loved,” she said.

Robb loved the animals she worked with, but she loved all life, Anobile said. She had an affinity for nature, whether it was kayaking or camping or hiking and enjoyed being a caretaker for people and animals and getting involved in projects she cared about.

“She became part of every thing,” Anobile said. “Every part she touched, she made it whole. That’s what was so unique about her. She even made me a better person by showing me how calm life just is. Nothing has to be a struggle.”

“I think she would be happy to know that she did what she loved doing right until the end,” Anobile said.

She grew up being taught to understand and appreciate “that we’re all connected,” Anobile said. Robb loved learning about other cultures and meditating and walking barefoot outside to feel connected to nature each morning.

She brought a sense of tenderness to the lives of those she knew, Anobile and two long-time friends said at their home Thursday night. But even with having a “zen” disposition, she was not lacking a vigor for life.

“She just took on a challenge. She admired everybody and everything and learned from everybody,” Anobile said.

Several posts on the rescue group’s Facebook show Robb smiling alongside animals at the organization. Past posts commended her for being a longtime, hardworking volunteer, a friend, having a “huge” heart and being “always right there when needed.”

“This is why I am so passionate about my dog rescue work … we can’t save them all, but we can save a few. And what a good feeling that is,” Robb wrote in a Facebook post of hers from 2015.

“Pam Robb you touched everyone you met; you were loved by all; you [sic] heart was as big as the Grand Canyon; you will be missed! RIP dear Pam RIP,” one friend wrote in another Facebook post.

“Pam was the most amazing human. She didn’t care about the human drama or the ups and downs or gossip of rescue. She was just about the animals. That’s a rare one. She didn’t want props, grace or glory. She did the dirty work without thinking twice. The purest human ever,” Romi Tamara, a friend of Robb, said to the Sun Sentinel in a Facebook message.

The business’ website says since September 2011 it has rescued more than 4,000 animals in the Everglades area (Florida City, Homestead and Redlands) as well as inner cities and surrounding areas of Southeast Florida.

The founder of the organization declined to speak when reached by phone Thursday.

Michele Lazarow, a Hallandale Beach city commissioner and animal advocate, and Ana Campos, a private investigator and animal activist, said they recognized the dog as Gladys when they saw video from WSVN-Ch.7 of the dog being led from the facility.

“What I can tell you is that unfortunately dog rescues are doing the best they can,” Lazarow said. “This is a horrible thing that happened. We don’t really know the details and those things matter.”

Lazarow said she the workers at 100+ Abandoned Dogs have not had any previous issues with the thousands of rescue animals they’ve handled. It can be easy for rescuers to become comfortable with a dog after some time that, still, little is known about, she said.

“If this was an incident that happens regularly with rescues, then everybody would have been on high alert. This is not something people expect,” Lazarow said.

Campos was critical of the 100+ Abandoned Dogs because she didn’t see enough people wearing bite sleeves or other such safety equipment during a video of the rescue or during video of people visiting with the dog after the rescue.

“I’ve got to tell you when I watched the video of the rescue along with everybody else I had concerns about basic safety protocols being ignored,” Campos said.

A 48-minute-long Facebook live video shared to the organization’s on page Jan. 18 shows rescuers encountering a large female dog sitting on the rocks of a canal bank in an empty field. A woman narrating throughout the video says the dog had been found by the gator-infested canal at least three days prior.

A woman sits near the dog on the canal bank throughout the video as the narrator details the rescue. The video shows the woman tossing chicken near the dog, inching closer to try to approach her calmly.

The narrator described the dog, who they named Gladys, as weighing over 100 pounds and said she growled if anybody got too close.

“We have to be very very cautious that nobody gets bit,” the woman says in the video.

After 40 minutes of filming, the rescuers are able to coax Gladys to walk into the back of a car as everyone cheers. The rescuers believed she had an injury to one of her legs.

Since the Jan. 18 rescue, the organization shared regular updates about Gladys on their social media. The last update, posted Monday, said her progress had been “slow and steady” and that she seemed traumatized, making any rehabilitation process challenging.

The organization wrote they were “pressing on” and “trying to teach her to be confident, and not to be afraid,” the post from Monday says.

Brian Bocage, 21, was identified, located, and arrested late Thursday night, according to Lauderhill police, which said it received assistance from the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Lauderhill police responded to a synagogue in the predawn hours Thursday after a report of a car on fire in its parking lot.

Bocage said he knew the cruiser was unoccupied and didn’t intend to injure anyone, according to police.

Bocage also said he harbored not hatred toward police, members of the synagogue, or Jews.

The fire was set shortly before midnight Wednesday at the Synagogue of the Inverarry, at 6700 NW 44th St., according to Lauderhill police. The car that was burned was a marked Lauderhill police cruiser that was placed there to deter potential crimes after a vandalism incident at the synagogue earlier this month.

Police said the cruiser was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived. Lauderhill Fire Rescue extinguished the fire.

Police said a man wearing dark hoodie, dark pants and light sneakers poured a substance on the cruiser and set it on fire. The cruiser is a total loss.

No one was inside the cruiser and no damage was done to the synagogue.

Video surveillance captured the crime.

Deputies from the Broward Sheriff’s Office were already seeking Bocage for other crimes. The arrest report said deputies provided Lauderhill police Bocage’s Instagram page that had several videos of arsons including the cruiser at the synagogue.

Police said Bocage confessed to that act after he was showed still images from the video that captured tattoos on his forearms while pouring the substance on the cruiser. Bocage also confessed to the crime in which he was wanted by deputies.

Bocage is charged with second-degree arson and criminal mischief for burning the Lauderhill cruiser.

Sean Charles Greer, 27, was taken into custody after evidence left at Monday’s crash scene at 2417 NW Ninth Ave. in Wilton Manors led detectives to him.

Greer was booked into the Main Jail Tuesday evening.

Greer caused a bit of a disturbance during his first court appearance Wednesday morning. He was led away by deputies after it seemed he objected to attending the proceeding. Court was delayed for about a minute while Greer was taken out of the courtroom.

“We seem to have lost him for a moment,” Judge Joseph Murphy said.

Seconds later a deputy told the judge, “Your honor, he stepped away. He didn’t want to come back before the judge.”

Greer’s court-appointed public defender said he suffers from asthma, depression and insomnia. Greer was ordered to be held on no bond for two probation violations, and was ordered to appear before a judge at 8:30 a.m. Thursday for one of the probation violations.

Shortly before 3 p.m. Monday in the 2500 block of Northwest Ninth Avenue, a city bus stopped to drop off a passenger and pulled out to continue driving south.

Deputies said the car driven by Greer, a 2009 Honda Accord sedan, approached the bus from behind and wouldn’t allow the bus to merge into traffic. Greer’s Accord then veered around the bus, nearly hitting the bus’ front driver’s side.

Greer then drove the car off the road and onto the sidewalk, the Sheriff’s Office said, where he hit the group of children, who were all related to each other.

The Sheriff’s Office identified the two girls who were killed as Andrea Fleming, 6, and Kylie Jones, 5. The others — Draya Fleming, 9; Audre Fleming, 2; Laziyah Stokes, 9; Johnathan Carter, 10 — were all hospitalized with injuries at Broward Health Medical Center.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Stephen Gollan said Monday that two of the injured children were in critical condition.

A GoFundMe page has been established to help pay funeral costs for Kylie Jones.

“i will always love my daughter and will never stop and i will prevail and seek justice amongst the person responsible,” the girl’s mother wrote.

A GoFundMe page also has been set up for Andrea and Draya Fleming.

“I’m in the worse condition ever as a mother and don’t know how I’m going to prepare myself mentally to fight and keep a smile for the rest of my children,” their mother wrote.

After Monday’s hit-run, law enforcement agencies released a description of the Honda Accord, leading officials to the car at 2512 NW Ninth Lane, which the Sheriff’s Office said is Greer’s address. When detectives found the car, its front bumper was missing, consistent with a bumper found at the crash scene, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The duplex with Greer’s address is in a wooded lot almost directly behind the apartment complex where the hit-run occurred.

The Sheriff’s Office Violence Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response detectives found Greer, who confessed to being responsible for the crash, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The Broward Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday night that Sean Charles Greer, 27, was arrested in connection with the hit-and-run crash in Wilton Manors that killed two children and injured four others.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday night that Sean Charles Greer, 27, was arrested in connection with the hit-and-run crash in Wilton Manors that killed two children and injured four others.

A woman answered the door at the duplex on Wednesday morning and identified herself as Greer’s roommate of four months, but refused to give her name.

She said that on Monday, Greer texted her “You don’t know whose car it is.” When he got home he told her “he was hosed,” she told the Sun Sentinel. “He said he hit another car.”

He told her his bumper came off, but “I figured it out,” she said. “When the cops came, I told them who he is.”

The arrest report said Greer removed his license plate in an attempt to conceal the car’s involvement in the crash.

Greer is facing two counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving death, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving injuries, tampering with evidence, four counts of driving without a license causing death and serious bodily injuries, and driving with a suspended license, according to deputies.

Assistant State Attorney Ross Weiner said Greer’s Florida drivers license has been suspended since 2016. Weiner also listed several arrests for Greer dating back to 2013, including possession of cannabis, petty theft and driving with a suspended license.

In August 2012, Coral Springs police arrested Greer on charges of driving without a valid driver license, driving without lights at night and resisting an officer without violence.

A year later, Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies picked up Greer on charges of operating without a valid license and operating an unsafe vehicle, court records show.

And again in May 2015, Margate Police charged Greer with driving with a suspended license and driving a car without lights at night.

Three months later, deputies arrested Greer on a warrant after he failed to appear in court for the case, court and arrest records show.

According to Greer’s Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles driver record, his license remained suspended for failing to pay required court fees.

Greer is on probation for burglary in Broward County, the Sheriff’s Office said.

In 2019, Greer was convicted for felony burglary after breaking into a home and stealing a PlayStation video game console that he pawned soon after the theft. In 2017, he had a misdemeanor petty theft arrest related to shoplifting at a Kohl’s department store. Also in 2017, he had a felony arrest for possession of cannabis with intent to sell.

In 2016, Greer was arrested for causing a disturbance at a La Quinta hotel and used racial slurs against the African-American arresting officer, according to the arrest report.

Greer also was involved in a domestic violence case in 2014, but the woman didn’t appear in court to finalize the charges. However, among her allegations were that Greer threatened to kidnap her child and would come to her house banging on doors and windows. She said he once called her 30 times in a 24-hour period despite having a no-contact order.
