Palestinians defending their land
On page 1 of the Oct. 21 Orlando Sentinel there was a picture of a very young boy holding a sign which stated, “River to Sea a Free Palestine.” Other protesters held up signs such as, “If you support Israel give them your land.” Those signs encapsulate why a two-state solution is never going to work to bring peace to the Middle East. In the eyes of the Muslim and Arab world a free Palestine runs from the Jordan River, the boundary line between Israel, Jordan, and the West Bank, all the way to the Mediterranean Sea. In other words there is no room for the Jewish state of Israel; all this land belongs to the so-called Palestinian people. This is why Palestinian leaders have always refused land-for-peace deals.
Almost every Israeli Prime Minister has offered on generous terms to trade land for peace only to be rebuffed by every Palestinian leader. Radical terrorist groups wanted to stop the momentum of the Abraham Accords which ultimately would have helped the Palestinians and it looks like they have succeeded.

Too light a sentence
Regarding former state Rep. Joe Harding of Ocala, who pleaded guilty to wire fraud, money laundering, and making false statements: Why is his sentence, from U.S. District Judge Allen Winsor, for only four months?
His brother-in-law, who also was convicted of similar charges, got more than five years. Federal prosecutors should appeal this sentence.

Breast cancer awareness
Honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month to reduce the risk of breast cancer and its recurrence is especially critical here in Florida, where an estimated 22,670 new cases of breast cancer and 3,170 breast cancer deaths will occur in Florida in 2023, according to the American Cancer Society.
As a dietitian and cooking instructor with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, I research the benefits of a healthy plant-based diet, which is one of the steps in our Let’s Beat Breast Cancer campaign: Eat a whole food, plant-based diet, exercise regularly, limit alcohol and maintain a healthy weight.

Biden a humble statesman
Say what you will about President Joe Biden’s age (80), but it would be dishonest to deny the plain fact that he is a statesman, and Americans and the world are fortunate that he is.
Moreover, he has assembled men and women within his administration who are of high character and competence. Unlike the person who preceded him, who had a penchant for humiliation, Biden does not claim to know more than his generals, or that only he knows everything.
Biden is humble. He is not coy, nor does he claim that God sent him to be the one to “take the arrows,” like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. I am less than four years Biden’s junior, but his vigor and energy blow me away. To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln, in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count, it’s the life in your years.
