DeSantis took action for Floridians stranded in Gaza
One letter-writer ranted about Gov. Ron DeSantis bringing back Floridians stranded in Gaza, calling it a political stunt (“DeSantis’ Israel please were just bluster,” Oct. 18). First, they were not hostages, and second, he made an executive order and did what he said he would do. He did not hide behind excuses like the Biden Administration has done.
The bottom line is that it does not matter what the motivation was in rescuing those people; what matters is that is that it was successful and they are safe in the United States. That is more than Biden and his people were doing for evacuees or even the hostages at the time.
The writer should re-evaluate what the Biden Administration has done to return Americans to the U.S. She should temper her hatred for the Republican governor. It seems most Democrats feel contempt for Republicans who do good things. If it was a Democrat who rescued those people, they might be lauded as heroes.

Floridians should be ashamed of DeSantis’ example
They play us for suckers and fools, don’t they — DeSantis and Corcoran? (Scott Maxwell: “$1.5 million to lead a college with 698 students?” Oct. 18). President George W. Bush was right when at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in 2001 he joked, “You can fool some of the people all of the time, and those are the ones you want to concentrate on.”
How sad that a majority of those going to the polls here in Florida could be so easily suckered to vote for a politician like DeSantis. So, instead of hungry children getting supplied with meals, the money is spent on DeSantis’ cronies and high-profile stunt tricks (flying unsuspecting asylum seekers to Martha’s Vineyard and to California, for example). I remember boys who behaved like this when I was in high school. We called them bullies. Here in Florida we have had the misfortune of showing the rest of the country what a disaster Ron DeSantis is as an executive. He has zero chance of ever winning the Republican primary, much less ever becoming president.

Find good things Biden has done
I, for one, am sick and tired of seeing either Trump or DeSantis in the headlines every day. Every day, all we see is these GOP people and how they are messing up. Please show us some good things that Biden’s administration is doing for this country. We need some positive news. I know this isn’t the norm and doesn’t sell papers but we need to know that good things are happening under this administration to try to fix the screwed-up mess that the GOP has left us with. We need to be able to share this with our neighbors so we and they know that there are reasons they should consider to vote for Democrats. Help us, please!
