Madame Tussauds is doubling up on its Awkwafina population with new wax figures in its Orlando and New York attractions.
The actress/writer/rapper is portrayed in two different ensembles. In Madame Tussauds Orlando on International Drive, she’s in a red two-piece suit, white vest and floral shoes donated by Awkwafina. In her native New York, she sports a blue gown similar to the one she wore to the 2021 Emmy Awards.
The performer is currently seen in “Awkwafina Is Nora From Queen,” a Comedy Central sitcom, where she plays a fictionalized version of herself. Her resume also includes roles in “Crazy Rich Asians,” “Ocean’s 8” and “The Farewell,” which earned her a Golden Globe Award. She has had voice roles in two episodes of “The Simpsons,” “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run,” “Raya and the Last Dragon,” as Scuttle in this year’s “The Little Mermaid” and the upcoming “Kung Fu Panda 4.”
Awkwafina (birth name Nora Lum) met with Madame Tussauds’ team of sculptors, colorists, hairdressers and stylists during the production of the figures, which took about nine months to complete. Twenty London-based artists collaborated with Awkwafina and her team of make-up artists and hairstylists to properly replicate her exact measurements, hair color, eye color, skin tone and complexion. The figure includes the “NY” tattoo on her wrist.
“The ability for this to happen to me is just really cool, to be, as you guys say, immortalized in wax. One is going to be living in the New York City location. … So, to know that I’m going to be in my hometown is a huge honor,” Awkwafina said.
